This is a direct result of the crowd, work, and time associated with each. That is, the quantity of individuals that every ranges, the measure of work required to get the scoop, and the measure of time it takes each to communicate the news. à à à à à The first explanation, the measure of individuals that the news comes to, is presumably the greatest factor. TV is viewed by a large portion of the populace while, the measure of individuals that get a paper, or other wellspring of acquiring news data, for example, NEWSWEEK, is impressively less. Moreover, TV offers an assortment of channels and projects, which implies a more complete story, rather than a paper which may just offer one view. à à à à à Another reason that TV is wanted to print is a direct result of the measure of work included. The paper, or a magazine, is something that you need to go out and get, or far and away more terrible, hang tight for. News isn't promptly accessible, furthermore, holding up can be horrendous on the off chance that you are on edge for within scoop. TV, then again, is accessible consistently, and it very well may be turned on at any. Satellite proprietors have a considerably more noteworthy bit of leeway, they can discover worldwide news and have a more prominent number of decisions, for example, which news program to watch. Additionally, if an individual is unskilled or a poor peruser, it is very self-evident that they will pick TV over a paper. TV is an a lot simpler elective than getting news through print. à à à à à A third and significant explanation that print is the less viable technique for getting data is time. It takes any longer than observing TV or tuning in to the radio. For instance, if an individual works a great deal and invests his other energy dealing with a family and heading to and from work, at that point that individual will pick the radio over the paper. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-55237330138554001852020-08-22T22:25:00.001-07:002020-08-22T22:25:34.112-07:00Paul Gauguin A Life Essay Example For StudentsPaul Gauguin: A Life Essay Something youll notice about the way individuals who knewà Gauguinà tend to review him, composed a youngster in 1929. They may discuss him with affection or hating: none talks about him with lack of interest. Inà Paulà Gauguin: A Life (Simon Schuster, 600 pp), David Sweetman doesn't enhance that portrayal of the crabby craftsman. Be that as it may, he does an amazing activity of conveyingà Gauguins enthusiasm, tenacious self-respect and painterly virtuoso, which have overwhelmed different biographers. The craftsman was conceived in Paris in 1848 and passed on in the Marquesas Islands in 1903 of syphilis, a month shy of his 55th birthday celebration His dad, Clovis, a rising columnist, originated from a long queue of planters. His moms family, unquestionably all the more intriguing, were Peruvian privileged people, some of them famous.à Gauguins grandma was the women's activist Flora Tristan, a companion of George Sands and notable in European radical circles during the main portion of the nineteenth century as creator of The Emancipation of Women and Peregrinations of a Pariah. On his moms side, too,à Gauguinwas an immediate relative of Alexander VI, that generally famous everything being equal, through the pontiffs oldest child, Juan. This implies his increasingly remote aunties and uncles included Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia. In 1883,à Gauguinà famously surrendered his vocation as a stockbroker and agent (among different interests, he sold covering in Copenhagen) to paint each day. He painted profoundly respected scenes in Britanny A profitable outing to Martinique in 1887 excited a profound craving for the hues and daylight of the South Pacific and set a longing to free himself of common France. He inevitably deserted spouse and family as well as Europe itself for Tahiti and afterward the Marquesas. Gauguins compositions and figures, with their eccentric blend of exotic nature, strict longings and distinctive hues and structures, stimulated enthusiasm all through the 1880s and 1890s as they advanced into Parisian exhibitions. His first significant review after his passing came in 1906 and was gone to by Henri Matisse (who was so moved by the hues that he later visited Tahiti), Andre Derain, Raoul Dufy and different specialists who gave the world Fauvism and Expressionism. As Sweetman shows,à Gauguinà himself consistently opposed unadulterated reflection, accepting that workmanship must be grounded as a general rule. In any case, his effect on reflection in this century has been extensive. The work of art is extraordinary, the life was definitely not. Sweetman calls attention to thatà Gauguinà did not accommodate the consideration and food of any of the youngsters he fathered in the South Pacific. He purchased, for a jolt or so of material, the 12-, 13-and 14-year-old girls of Tahitian and Marquesan chieftains to be his spouses. Sweetman takes note of that he favored those raised in the loyal ethos of non-European societies, demonstrating none of the freedom of brain supported by even constrained Western instruction. Intrigued by lines of local young ladies on their approach to Catholic school, for exampleà Gauguinà would stop and endeavor to engage them while coming to under their coveralls to contact them personally simultaneously, Sweetman takes note of this isn't the message of his works of art, which on numerous occasions make an extraordinarily ladylike universe wherein ladies rule. Gauguins last youthful buddy deserted her husbandperhaps, Sweetman conjectures, since she had been shocked by the sobbing injuries on his legs an aftereffect of his syphilis. He limped around bolstered by a stick that donned an indecent cutting. The locals snickered when, almost visually impaired, he played with grandmas as effectively as nubile ladies, as indicated by Sweetman. Strikingly, in any event until the most recent months of his life,à Gauguinà was no victor of South Pacific locals, frequently taking the side of French pioneers in debates and at times not in any event, making short outings to see significant works of Polynesian workmanship. .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .postImageUrl , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .focused content territory { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:hover , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:visited , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:active { border:0!important; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; change: murkiness 250ms; webkit-change: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:active , .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:hover { obscurity: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relati ve; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content enhancement: underline; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content adornment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ud2213e549898183e 7c9c6cf43d143c6b .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ud2213e549898183e7c9c6cf43d143c6b:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: In My Short Life On This Planet I Have Come To Question Things That Ma EssaySweetman will in general be matter-of-reality about this mutable craftsman and character, however the outcome is no faltering perused. It explicitly follows the 2004 presidential races between President George W. Hedge and John Kerry. The occasions that are portrayed in the film are set in Ohio State that turned into the political war zone for the two up-and-comers in their race for the United States presidential seat.Advertising We will compose a custom exposition test on Review of ââ¬Å"â⬠¦So Goes the Nationâ⬠film explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More It covers the last occasions of the Ohio presidential battle. The film shows how laborers, delegates for the two gatherings, Democrats and Republicans, showed up in Ohio from everywhere throughout the nation to help their gatherings at the peak of the 2004 decisions. The film exhibits how one can win or lose a political decision by following or not following certain political ideas (â⬠¦So Goes the Nation 2006). Political act ivism assumed a key job in choosing the triumphant competitor. President George W. Shrub appeal and his solid crusade system helped him get enough votes from Ohio voters that empowered him to win a fervently challenged presidential race (Bond and Smith 182). This bit of composing presents an audit of â⬠¦So Goes the Nation film. It clarifies political occasions that occurred in Ohio before 2004 presidential decisions. In addition, it depicts political theory ideas, for example, vote based system, political opportunity, dominant part rule and political activism joined in the film (Bond and Smith 380). This work finishes up with my assessment on the film and how it identifies with my comprehension of legislative issues. Summary of the Plot and Main Characters The political crusade peak for 2004 US presidential races occurred in Ohio State. George W. Bramble and his adversary John Kerry understood that Ohio was an impartial State that could impact the choice of individuals and chara cterize the nationââ¬â¢s president for the following four years. In this manner, the two gatherings submitted their time and assets to persuade voters to decide in favor of them. In any case, both political pioneers and voters had a dread that the debates of 2000 decisions would be rehashed. Numerous individuals presumed that voter extortion, decimation of polling stations, and impedance of enrollment rolls could occur (Bond and Smith 302). This made the producers, Stern and Del Deo, to camp at Ohio with their cameras to catch the last occasions before the Election Day. Accordingly, â⬠¦So Goes the Nation covers the crusade laborers for the Democrats and Republicans as they strived to swing votes in support of them. It analyzes the conceivable outcomes of the behind-the-scene laborers meddling with the elections.Advertising Looking for paper on craftsmanship and structure? Besides, it shows how their inconspicuous battle staff played their cards to persuade voters to give their voices for their up-and-comers (Bond and Smith 210). John Kerry concentrated on local issues, for example, wellbeing, homosexuality and premature birth, security, and financial aspects, while Bush concentrated on national security and condemned Kerryââ¬â¢s un-reality concerning security issues dependent on his record in Vietnam (â⬠¦So Goes the Nation 2006). It was simple for Kerry to win since everything was in support of him, directly from assessments of public sentiment to prevalence of his political figure. In any case, when the democratic day showed up, amazing patterns occurred that slanted the voters for the disagreeable, however appealling George Bush. Parts of the Movie and Political Concepts Stern and Del Deo narrative â⬠¦So Goes the Nation looks at the 2004 US decisions through minute focal points and attempts to talk about what went good and bad for Bush and Kerry. The two applicants concentrated their battles on Ohio since they accepted that it would be the choosing State in their last crusade (Bond and Smith 67). The film catches all the occasions, both little and enormous, that happened during the political decision time frame. In addition, it inspects voters and their assurance and energy to choose their leader. It takes the perspective of behind-the-scene campaigners who looked to convince voters to decide in favor of their up-and-comer (â⬠¦So Goes the Nation 2006). Most of the Americans checked out the 2004 races. Be that as it may, huge numbers incorporated the individuals who appeared to be tired of George Bush organization since they felt that his administration was a greater amount of corporate than open intrigue. The film catches crusade occasions a while before the genuine Election Day. Political activism is uncovered as activists go entryway to- entryway and make calls to ensure that their competitor gets triumphant (â⬠¦So Goes the Nation 2006). These endeavors expressly show the degree to which people can go to guarantee that their competitor wins the political race. This shows political opportunity in a popularity based government.Advertising We will compose a custom article test on Review of ââ¬Å"â⬠¦So Goes the Nationâ⬠film explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Grassroots legislative issues is given an extraordinary consideration in the film, notwithstanding, it additionally detail the endeavors made by political tacticians and crusade supervisors of every up-and-comer. Crusade supervisors and political planners worked off camera and they did a great deal in offering their possibility to the general population. The film clarifies how John Kerry lost a political decision, in spite of being the most loved up-and-comer. It shows what job the methods of political influence, commercials and ta lks play in deciding how a political race will turn out. Besides, it shows how successful and diligent promoting is, and how the circumstance can impact the general population (Bond and Smith 102). Ideas of political clearness and disarray are depicted. Republican volunteers appeared to be reliable as they led real way to-entryway look for votes while the Democrats appeared to be confounded and ill-equipped (Bond and Smith 160). Kerryââ¬â¢s crusade bunches focused on the city casts a ballot and overlooked provincial votes, which the Republicans gained by. Savvy Republican campaigners didn't rely upon the swing vote, yet perceived Ohio State that maintains Christian standards. In this way, they crusaded against social issues of homosexuality and premature birth bolstered by the Democrats. This made Christians in Ohio to cross partisan loyalties and decision in favor of the Republican competitor. A meeting with a Democrat supporter who at last decided in favor of George Bush shows political opportunity that voters appreciate in the popularity based America. More or less, the film analyzes the 2004 US presidential decisions, overall population (voters), and the democratic procedure (Bond and Smith 102). Bond, Jon R. what's more, Kevin Smith. So, yes, you can represent yourself like an expert in the summary, but if you donât have the actual work experience as a property manager or set of skills to support that, the competition will bet you.Make it sound engaging â"Imagine a recruiter falling asleep while reading your CV. Nightmare, isnât it? No one says that it has to be pure poetry, but make sure it doesnât sound boring so that the recruiter would lose the attention while reading it. Make it sound exciting but focus on being honest as well.Believe it or not, we even have the ingredients for the ideal summary! Jokes aside, but we do have the right formula on how to make it sound great. It should consist of two or three sentences d escribing your skillsets and experience. If you havenât got much experience, you can list the place you graduated from and as well as the reason why you are applying for this job. Whatever you choose to include, the point is to catch attention.Hereâs how it should and shouldnât sound:SummaryA senior commercial property manager with 7+ years of experience, including supervision of multimillion-dollar properties. Determined leader, mentor, and coordinator with a history of providing support and analysis for complex projects including operational revisions, detailed financial examination, and recommendations for change. Skilled at cultivating and supporting cooperation with tenants, resulting in high occupancy rates, minimum turnover, and renewal of long-term rentals. RightSummaryExperienced property manager. Performed financial analysis. Good communication with tenants. WrongWhen comparing these two examples, you see a big difference. The right one is longer than the wrong on e, but still not too long. It contains major points that can help the recruiter get the picture about the qualification of the candidate, whereas the second example sounds too generic and can be applied even to different positions. After all, if a property manager needs to have excellent communication skills, one of the ways to show so is using the right words to describe it in the resume. Keep it to the point but spice it up just enough to make it look and sound personal and engaging. You can even put yourself in the recruiterâs position, and answer the question, which of the two candidates would you invite for an interview for the property manager job based on the summary? The ârightâ one or the âwrongâ one?FIND OUT HOW TOP-CLASS PROPERTY MANAGERS WRITE EXPERIENCE SECTION ON RESUMENow that you know how to ace the Summary, letâs get down to the next crucial section on your CV.This aspect provides essential information about your previous experience as a property manager a nd shows if you are qualified for the position.Furthermore, this section helps recruiters evaluate in which way you can contribute to the company. If you have the required skill set to contribute to the company youre applying to and youâve already proved yourself as a good and reliable employee in previous companies youve worked for, itâs highly likely that you will get the job.Chances can get even bigger if you know how to express and arrange those, and we will show you the right way. When listing previous positions and experience, including the period you worked for that company. That way that the future employer the information of for how long have youâve been employed and unemployed.Sometimes recruiters wonât take even consider the candidates who donât have at least 2 or 3 years of experienceThen again, no one cares if you have worked in café for 5 years because even though that is 5-year experience, it has no relevance for the property manager position. Moreover, having in mind that there are many different positions of property managers, giving the precise company name can show which niche you exactly worked in.Sometimes thereâs a candidate with an excellent set of skills, but who has just graduated, and hasnât worked anywhere. The competition is merciless, so entry-level and inexperienced candidates usually have minimal chances but they should still try.At least for the sake of breaking the ice.Even though the experience usually prevails, because it confirms how you utilize the skills you have, you never know.Add 3 or 4 bullets about how youâve contributed to the company when listing the previous position(s), Numbers and percentages, if possible, are secret ingredients which enchant the recruiters, as they represent the âprecise measureâ of your experience!Silly but it works. Those serve to convince the recruiter that youâve made a positive impact in the previous company. However, putting numbers and percentage just because we told you t hey work wonât take you anywhere, if those are not meaningfully used. Those cannot be used in every profession, so donât push things. The goal is to make a reader-friendly and honest CV, not a fairy-tale. Right WrongThe rule âthe more the merrierâ does not make sense here. What we are trying to say that when writing about your previous experiences, include only the purposeful ones in your CV.The only jobs and experience you should list are those which are somehow related to the profession youâre applying for.If you were selling newspapers for a year before your real career began or you were a baby-sitter during the college, itâs fine, but those data are not for the CV.Even though those are sweet and they show that you are a hard-working person, those experiences are completely irrelevant for the job.LEARN HOW TO ARRANGE THE EDUCATION IN PROPERTY MANAGER RESUMEEven though one may think that this segment is not as important as the Experience it can make a lot of difference in the situation when a recruiter has two candidates with equal experience and skill set.You never know if you can be in such a situation, so you need to arrange it as best as possible.Again, if you have numerous certificates and achievements that are not connected with property manager job, thereâs no reason to list them, because they mean nothing to the recruiter.Again, they show that you are willing to work on yourself, upgrade and educate, but if they cannot be applied on the job you are interested in, thereâs no need to mention those.Hereâs what you can highlight in the Education section:The college, academy or online course youâve graduated from.GPA scores (if it is very high).Papers youve written, projects youve taken part in and seminars youve visited (if relevant to the job).Organizations and clubs youâve joined (if relevant for the job).To give you a practical example, if you visited some seminars on how to improve interpersonal communication, or you volunteered in a tourist agency, that is connected with the property manager profession. On the other hand, if you have a certificate for scuba diving, thatâs cool, but that wonât help you rent more apartments to potential tenants, isnât that so?WHICH ARE THE BEST SKILLS TO LIST IN A PROPERTY MANAGER RESUME?There are several types of the position of a property manager, so the skillset varies depending on that. Those duties and obligations may sound ordinary and not so important to list them, but if you put yourself in the recruiterâs position, youâll see that they are very meaningful.Even though things like communication with tenants, handling financial reports and similar are everyday duties you perform, the recruiter gets the insight into your capacities and qualifications if you name those precisely. You need to find a way to describe them as less generic as possible. It may sound challenging, but thereâs a little trick on how to make them sound dynamic. When listing skills, for example for a commercial property manager and residential property manager, try to think of what are the specific requirements and duties for each of these positions.Based on that, think of adequate skills and describ e them well and precise.Try to list mediocre skills which everyone who applies for this position usually list.Hereâs a practical example to illustrate so: Right WrongSide note: Donât list skills which have nothing to do with the position you are applying for. The fact that you are âfamous for delicious coffee you makeâ or âa great singerâ sounds cool, do not show how well you communicate with tenants. Even though if some of the skills can be applied to multiple positions, they still need to be relevant.HOTTEST TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE YOUR PROPERTY MANAGER RESUME EVEN BETTER Resume length â"Keep in mind that employers havenât got much time to check out all the resumes, so you need to maintain an optimal length. Add whatâs necessary, avoid redundancies. The ideal length is around one page, two is still okay if you have so much precious experience. Beyond that is simply too long to maintain the attention.Proofreading â" Double-check what and how you wrote your resume. Grammar errors, typos and similar are simply forbidden. Donât let a grammatical error damage your credibility and be the eliminatory factor. Feel free to send your CV to a proofreader if you are not sure or have some doubts about the correctness. After all, the fact that you are top-class property manager doesnât mean that you have a top-class knowledge on every single grammar rule.Reviewing â" Review your CV with due care. When you finish, do it once again. Getting a second opinion is also a great option to make sure that everythingâs spick and span. If you have a friend who works as a recruiter, ask him/ her to revise your CV. Independent opinion is always valuable and can get you a useful insight from some new perspective.Articulate â" Be clear and precise. The ability to articulate the data you provide on your CV is a crucial thing. You donât want to end up being interpreted the wrong way.Adapting your CV â" In an ideal world, you should write a different resume every time you apply for some job. But sometimes you either havenât got time or inspiration to do so, so at least try to adjust the resume based on the position you are applying for. It has to match the specific requirements. Not all jobs require the same skills and thatâs why it important to personalize your resume based on the demands.Bulleting â"Bullet points make your resume look easy-to-read, as they focus someoneâs attention to key aspects from that section. Use them to make your resume look well-organized and boost the chances that the potential employer spots you.Highlighting â" An extra way to emphasize keywords is to mix highlights with bullet points. However, avoid making a colorful and dotted party invitation. When using these tools and options, use them meaningful and purposeful.Font â" The handwritten-like fonts look stylish and pretty, but are not appropriate for a resume. Stick with the ordinary and well-readable and neutral fonts like Cambria, Helvetica, Calibri, Times New Roman, and similar common choices for various formal documents.Formatting â" Provide a CV in different formats such as PDF and TXT. Moreover, make s ure have a copy of your resume both in physical and digital form. Be prepared for the most unexpected scenarios, which include the power or internet outage as well.E-Mail â" Check your E-Mail regularly, or you may miss the invitation to the interview. Back then it was quite common to get a phone call directly from your boss telling you that you are among the selected candidates. E-mails are a faster way to reach the candidates, so donât risk missing the chance.Resume template â" We have an excellent tool which is very flexible and suitable for various profiles of jobs. Inaction is a word which connotes restriction of both the physical and the mental aspects of a person. Without either of these aspects progressing, humanity will, in Beckettââ¬â¢s view, be trapped in a state of dystopia. As Absurdist theatre, Endgame is a play which reveals to the audience the futility of the search for a meaning to life. Hammââ¬â¢s realisation of this fact instead allows him to find meaning in the pursuit itself. However, pursuit connotes constant movement, a direct contrast to inaction. This cements Hammââ¬â¢s reason for rejecting the very prospect of inaction. His longing for a constantly changing state is shown through his passion when he exclaims ââ¬Å"we brea the, we change! We lose our hair, our teeth!â⬠It is interesting, then, that Hamm longs for a state of nature which hasnââ¬â¢t changed and is ââ¬Å"still greenâ⬠. Rather than the constantly moving pursuit, the land free from physical confinement ââ¬Å"down in the holeâ⬠is the final destination which Hamm hopes to achieve ââ¬â the land ââ¬Å"beyond those hillsâ⬠is the metaphorical representation of the meaning to life, an area which the characters long to go, but never reach throughout the entirety of the play.Furthermore, Hamm speaks of using the ââ¬Å"current which will take us far awayâ⬠; the ââ¬Å"currentâ⬠is constantly moving, symbolising the characterââ¬â¢s pursuit for meaning, but being a ââ¬Å"currentâ⬠, it will never stop and thus the characterââ¬â¢s will never reach their final destination. In a physical sense, Hammââ¬â¢s entrapment in the wheelchair is a state which Hamm refuses to accept due to the limitations of movement. At the introduction of the play, Clovââ¬â¢s dramatic unveiling of Hamm reveals to the audience a somewhat pitiful character due to his blindness and disability, highlighted by Clovââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"brief laughâ⬠. The motionlessness of Hamm indeed reveals a certain aspect of the play addressing despair and dystopia, however, the many times which Hamm attempts to move in the wheelchair throughout the play in fact evokes a sense of admiration at Hammââ¬â¢s determination to remain in a state of motion. When Hamm is unable to move despite using the gaff, he bids Clov to ââ¬Å"oil the castorsâ⬠. Hamm refuses to acknowledge his state of inaction despite failing using the gaff; instead, he seeks to try again. He realises that ââ¬Å"the end is the beginningâ⬠yet ââ¬Å"you still must go onâ⬠. Also, the scene when Hamm asks Clov to move him to the centre involves constant movement. Rather than accepting the fact that he is in the middle, Hamm continues t o ask Clov to move him ââ¬Å"a little to the leftâ⬠, then ââ¬Å"a little to the rightâ⬠. Consequently, the effect achieved due to Hammââ¬â¢s request for constant action achieves a comical effect in the view of the audience, which is a contrast to the dystopia which Hamm speaks of. The character of Hamm can be seen as Beckettââ¬â¢s authorial voice ââ¬â a voice which reveals the view that action, whether physical or mental, is a requirement to prevent the entrapment of the soul in a state of dystopia. Endgame is written in a post-World War II era; a time, for some, when all hope has been lost, causing a stagnant condition. Being Absurdist theatre, Endgame is written not to allow the audience to have a night of entertainment to escape from their own despair, but rather to ask the audience to face despair and overcome their dystopia by overcoming inactivity. Beckett uses the character of Hamm as an example. While physically immobile, Hamm advances mentally through his forceful ââ¬Å"bottlingâ⬠of the representatives of his memories, Nagg and Nell. Instead, Hamm tells stories which refer to action, even in a state of suffering, such as the man ââ¬Å"who came crawling towards meâ⬠, the sun ââ¬Å"sinking down among the deadâ⬠and ââ¬Å"dragging the madman to the window.â⬠In order to be relieved from the state of dystopia, one must be in constant motion, even if one is in despair. It is interesting, then, that Hamm forcefully represses Nagg and Nell, his memories even though their speech consists largely of high mobility, such as ââ¬Å"crashing on our tandemâ⬠. Hamm sees this as a revisiting of the past, something which will hinder his mental progression. Therefore, Hammââ¬â¢s discard of his memories in the literal ââ¬Å"garbage binsâ⬠in which Nagg and Nell reside is a revelation of Hammââ¬â¢s determination to not only keep in motion, but to move forward, rather than being mentally trapped in the past. When reflected upon reality, what Beckett is attempting to portray is perhaps that the war is over, and dwelling in the past will only cause a sense of stagnancy which will inevitably keep us in a state of dystopia. The reason for the futility in the search for meaning is partially due to cycles, an important aspect of Absurdist theatre. A dystopia, by definition, is a state of absolute despair. It is a condition that Beckett hints at, one that does not only comprise the characters on stage, but everyone, shown through Hammââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"throwing the whistle into the audienceâ⬠. Along with despair however, comes hope, a piece of the infinite cycle. Being in a cycle, resonance between the two intricately fused elements of despair and hope is possible. For example, Clov rejects Hammââ¬â¢s hope ââ¬Å"will you not kiss me?â⬠, ââ¬Å"will you not give me your hand?â⬠, but proceeds to fulfils the ratââ¬â¢s hope of dying ââ¬â ââ¬Å"If I donââ¬â¢t kill it, ità ¢â¬â¢ll dieâ⬠, meaning that if Clov does not ââ¬Å"finish itâ⬠, then the rat will continue to be suffering. However, if the characters are caught in a position of inaction, they will forever be trapped in a single state of despair. Cycles indeed remove the possibility of reaching a destination, but the characters are able to discover meaning in the endless search for meaning itself. In fact, the cycle of day and night is seemingly blurred throughout the play. Time has been removed and yesterday has simply become ââ¬Å"that bloody awful day before this bloody awful dayâ⬠a set of ââ¬Å"endless routinesâ⬠which is inactive and meaningless, as portrayed by Beckett to be the ultimate dystopia. Whenever Clov is told to look outside the window, the scenery would always be ââ¬Å"nothingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"zeroâ⬠. The meaning of ââ¬Å"nothingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"zeroâ⬠most probably doesnââ¬â¢t mean that there is absolutely nothing outside, as Hamm sti ll asks Clov to look ââ¬Å"at the oceanâ⬠. Instead, Clovââ¬â¢s reply is to reveal that there are no changes outside their room. In their view, nature has taken a form of inaction, thus clinching Clovââ¬â¢s despairing comment that ââ¬Å"thereââ¬â¢s no more nature.â⬠However, Clovââ¬â¢s despair is accompanied by hope, as Hamm reveals. Nature has reached a standstill, but ââ¬Å"we breathe, we change! We lose our hair, our teeth!â⬠and the cycle continues on, not in their surroundings, but in the characters themselves. Clovââ¬â¢s despair is compounded by Hammââ¬â¢s hope and vice versa. What is revealed by Beckett is that if the surroundings seem stagnant, as long as one continues to advance, then one can avoid a dystopia. Hammââ¬â¢s remark that ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m afraid that it will soon be the end of my storyâ⬠is countered by Clov that ââ¬Å"youââ¬â¢ll make up another.â⬠If the stories of Hamm is a representation of Hammââ¬â¢s des ire for a utopia created by constant movement and pursuit for meaning, then the fact that ââ¬Å"youââ¬â¢ll make up anotherâ⬠reveals that as long as one avoids inaction, then hope will continue to exist, thus erasing the idea of dystopia. The idea of a dystopia is linked with the idea of stagnancy and inaction. It is a state, as viewed by Beckett, which is achieved when there is neither physical nor mental progression. Even though the theme of Absurdist theatre is that any search for meaning to life will be utterly futile, as long as the cycle of searching remains moving, either physically or mentally, then hope can be evoked and the sense of dystopia can therefore be avoided. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-52261468511638004882020-05-22T11:36:00.001-07:002020-05-22T11:36:04.947-07:00The Plan And Budget After The Homeland Security - 792 Words The steps involved in developing a Homeland Security Plan and Budget after the Homeland Security Assessment of the organization has been completed is to first develop the Vision statement The Vision statement is XYZ organization will be the industry leader in providing ââ¬Å"Best Practicesâ⬠that support homeland security among employees, suppliers, partners, and customers. Men were always considered the caretakers and protectors of their homes and never had to worry about what kind of outfit they had to wear the next day. Men were free to roam around in whatever clothing that appealed to them and no one seemed to care. However, in the case of women, they were the ones who did the house work all day and if she wanted to get an education that was something obscured. Also, woman had to dress in a certain way because their rights were dug down in the dirt and men treated them like objects. The gender norms depicted back then and now are still being attributed to men and women inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In the poem, ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠, Browning makes an interesting connection with sexuality and murder. The first connection we receive is that Duke kills his duchess, so that he can persevere and have her all to himself. His loves f or the Duchess was strong, but sometimes lead to jealousy. The only way they can be together and no one would get in their way is by murdering her. The Duke thought it was okay to kill someone who he loves because it would be easier if no one else can have them, but that is what you call abnormal or someone portrayed as a psycho. Murder is too extreme in this situation and not always the answer. They could have talked it out or went to marriage counseling. The idea of femininity and sexuality comes in to play because the Duke identifies his woman as a useless object, but still loves and worships her at the same time. In the first lines of ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠, we see the Duke praising or grieving for his dead lover by having a painting of her hung on the wall. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s my last Duchess painted on the wall. Looking as if she were alive.â⬠We already assume that his lover is dead, but we donââ¬â¢t know how. Duke states in line 10, ââ¬Å"the curtain I have drawn for youâ⬠. Our thoughts and feelings we want to communicate to our loved ones, to our friends, to people we work with or go to school with and even to strangers. Maxine Hong Kingston in her memoir The Woman Warrior explores language and the use of language to express what Kingston finds as several conflicts. The conflict of the immigrant experience and the conflict of having to be a Chinese- American woman along with the expectation of being ââ¬Å"silentâ⬠. Maxine Hong Kingston provides a remarkable memoir that blends Chinese folktales and personal narratives. Much throughout her memoir Kingston, tells narratives of ââ¬Å"talk- storiesâ⬠, which are stories blended of her family stories and cultural myths that she has heard. For example the story of Kingstonââ¬â¢s un-named, ââ¬Å"no namedâ⬠aunt. The only knowledge Kingston has of her aunt are the hushed stories her mother tells, the rest Kingston spins with what she may have thought is what had happened. In this sense Kingstonââ¬â¢ is an unreliable narrator, leaving readers to question which parts of what Kingston is saying is actually true and which parts are pieces of her imagination. A show that was very important in American television history is The Ed Sullivan Show, created by Ed Sullivan and Marlo Lewis in 1948. The show lasted until 1971, making it the longest running variety show in history and the twenty-fourth longest running show in primetime history. We will write a custom essay sample on The Ed Sullivan Show or any similar topic only for you Order Now The show aired on CBS from 8:00-9:00 pm after being filmed in what was eventually named, The Ed Sullivan Theater. The Ed Sullivan Show lasted as long as it did because it was able to target all audiences in the hour show, which was one of the first television programs truly to do so. It was cancelled in 1971 because of the technological advances of television which made any television program available to anyone, at any time. Although other variety shows have been incredibly popular, The Ed Sullivan Show is the most important variety show to date because of its appeal to all ages. An agreeable argument is that both the Milton Berle Show and The Steve Allen show had great talents and success as variety shows. The Milton Berle show was started in 1948 by host Milton Berle, who became one of the most famous television show hosts ever. His nickname developed into ââ¬Å"Mr. Televisionâ⬠because of how great a host he was. The show aired originally on the radio and then the idea of the public use of television sparked its television debut. Milton Berle was so successful as host, which is evident in the fact that while on the radio, the show went through four different hosts before it reached him, and then did not change after that point1-6. Another variety show that showed great success on television was The Steve Allen Show. The show debuted many impressive new acts of all kinds. Steve Allen himself was ââ¬Å"innovative, funny, and whimsicalâ⬠2-15, which made him apart of the show with jokes and comedy skits. His talents helped the show tremendously. The showââ¬â¢s comedy talents were so famous that a few years after the show was cancelled The Steve Allen Comedy Hour was aired on CBS to pay tribute to the original show. While The Milton Berle Show, and The Steve Allen Show can be viewed as very important variety shows, they were not as appealing to all age groups and were not well-rounded shows. The Ed Sullivan Show was so successful as a variety show for so many reasons. One of the most important parts of the success was Ed Sullivan himself. Before becoming a television host, Ed worked behind the scenes as a writer for newspapers and a producer of many television programs. He began writing as a sports columnist and continued writing sports with many different papers all over the country until 1929 when he became a Broadway columnist3-17. Ed began to learn about show business through Broadway writing and shortly after began producing one time shows on television. During World War II Ed worked as the master of ceremonies at many relief effort shows, where people began knowing him as a host. Ed Sullivan made a great host because he was not the classic host with a ââ¬Å"sparklyâ⬠personality. He put the focus on the acts by introducing them, and then stepping off to let the performer(s) do what he hired them to do. ââ¬Å"Ed [did] nothing, but he [did] it better than anyone else on televisionâ⬠-Alan King4-9. Ed helped give the show its glory. He was named #50 of TV Guideââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"50 Greatest TV Stars of All Timeâ⬠which demonstrates the value Ed gave to the show5-9. He was also a brilliant businessman. Ed exceedingly wanted to be a household name because the more he was nationally recognized, the more money and sponsors he could bring to the show. Mr. Sullivan was paid $164,000 a year, and for that time, that amount of money was incredible even for a television personality, but Ed turned a simple variety show into a phenomena6-19. Another piece of the shows success was the new talent scouted by Ed and the producers. The baby boomers were becoming the new market in pop culture, and The Ed Sullivan Show captured the attention of the baby boomers with all the talent. Ed Sullivan caught the youngââ¬â¢s notice and then kept it and influenced it with bringing in new talent. Ed brought the love of English rock to America. On February 9th, 1964 the Beatles appeared live on television for the first time in America. Ed Sullivan noticed the obsession with the Beatles while in England with his wife and made a deal with Brian Epstein that the Beatles would perform three Sundayââ¬â¢s in a row on the show for $10,0007-4. About 73 million people tuned in to watch the Beatles perform, which equates to nearly 60% of all TVââ¬â¢s in America watching8-4. That was one of the biggest TV viewing in television history. After bringing in The Beatles and really launching ââ¬Å"Beatle maniaâ⬠in the United States, Ed starting focusing on other English rock bands and discovered talents such as The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Peter and Gordon, etc. 9-4 With all the new talents, Ed brought in many new comedians too. Ed founded the careers of many famous comedians, and shortly after starting the show, any new up-and-coming comedian wanted to be on the Ed Sullivan Show because it meant a start of a career for them. If Ed held that they were funny enough to be on his show, than America would soon agree with that. The Ed Sullivan Show was so successful as a variety show because of the shear number of types of performers that starred on the show. First and foremost, theatrical and musical acts shaped the Ed Sullivan Show. Everything from Broadway music to classical, to rock and roll was played on the show. Ed also enjoyed different dancers a lot so there was everything from ballet to jazz. He also loved showing movie clips and parts of Broadway plays. A Second key genre of acts was comedy. It was one act that the ââ¬Å"whole familyâ⬠watched and enjoyed together; no matter what comedian or the type of comedy. Ed also focused on just kids with comedy. There was a ten-inch tall puppet named Topo Gigio that was apart of the show for eleven years. 10-8 Topo Gigio along with other kid directed comedy gave the show a softer side, which helped it compete with a show such as ââ¬Å"The Wonderful World of Disneyâ⬠. The Ed Sullivan Show had so many other acts that kept it shuffled. Sometimes there would be episodes dedicated to one theme, which broke up the usual shows and would be an hour-long episode to pay tribute to somebody or something. Sometimes athletes would appear to give advice about how to play their sport or just to talk to Ed. Some of those athletes include Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. 11-2 Another very interesting type of performance would be a random celebrity in the audience coming up on stage to talk to Ed or to give an impromptu performance, which kept the show and audience members on edge. Ed Sullivan produced one of the most important television shows in history because of its impact on the careers of many and the world of television. ENDNOTES 1. Essay, Research Paper Amis himself describes the phrase # 8216 ; the moronic hell # 8217 ; as a metaphor for human opprobrium, and this appears to be a unusually disposed rubric for a aggregation of essays which recount positions on an America frequently portrayed as being ill-famed. America # 8217 ; s preoccupation with money is world-renowned and this subject continuously emerges during Amis # 8217 ; s Hagiographas. With one of the highest slaying rates in the universe, it is barely surprising that a figure of essays contain mention to violent deaths and two concern themselves to the full with this subject. Death and disease, although in some instances no mistake of America or its people, can besides be seen as marks of a decaying society. Further illustrations of a deteriorating civilization found in # 8220 ; gt ; The Moronic Inferno # 8221 ; gt ; include the intolerance and hatred expressed by many members of the population and the unscrupulousness and amorality expressed by many more. The Killings in Atlanta offer us our first acrimonious gustatory sensation of American life and merely as # 8216 ; the kid # 8217 ; in the gap paragraph is # 8216 ; existent insouciant # 8217 ; , so Amis informs us in relaxed, American-style address that # 8216 ; these yearss, adult male, it # 8217 ; s your money # 8220 ; gt ; and # 8221 ; gt ; your life. # 8217 ; This drama on the old highjacker stating offers a blithe debut into a serious essay and the usage of the word # 8216 ; insouciant # 8217 ; appropriate as the American public seems to hold a comparatively relaxed attitude towards slaying: # 8216 ; Conversation about slaying in America is every bit stoical and everyday as talk about the weather. # 8217 ; The usage of the three points in the 2nd paragraph is a common stylistic device employed by Amis and in this instance they allow us a brief intermission between each clause in which to digest the old atrociousness. By the terminal of the first subdivision of t he essay, the scene has been set and utilizing Atlanta as an illustration, Amis has displayed to us the extent to which slaying has become portion of American life. He briefly describes the assorted incidents which have taken topographic point during the hebdomad that he has spent in the metropolis, all of which would hold made the headlines in England, but are reasonably platitude in America. And so we move on from the # 8216 ; everyday # 8217 ; violent deaths to the Killings which form the topic of the essay and whose importance is signified by the usage of an upper instance missive. It certainly says something for the province of a society when alternatively of nursery rimes, it is necessary that kids are taught vocals stating them # 8216 ; neer go with aliens # 8217 ; . However, the vocal and consciousness run attach toing it have non had the desired consequence and, at least in Altlanta, # 8216 ; childs still go with aliens, one every month # 8217 ; . Throughout the essay there is an implicit in negative motive and the usage of the word black, alternatively of colored or Negro, helps add to the sense of pessimism and fright. Negative repeat in the first paragraph of the 2nd subdivision besides creates a sense of desolation and weakness. The subject of money is one which is incorporated in many, if non most, of Amis # 8217 ; s essays in # 8220 ; gt ; The Moronic Inferno # 8221 ; gt ; , and one which rears its ugly caput here on page 14. First we hear Mrs Bell, female parent of one of the victims, kicking about the rates of wage for her talks and so Amis without really impeaching anyone, makes his viewpoint rather clear: Mrs Bell has her critics. There is talk of cashing in, of fall ining the parade. I would be ashamed to oppugn Mrs Bell # 8217 ; s motivations ; but these are hapless people, and these things are inevitable in America. It is true to state that these people are hapless and money plays a big portion in American life, but certainly it is non the mark of a healthy society when female parents are rather willing to do a fast vaulting horse out of their kid # 8217 ; s decease. The subject of racial intolerance is besides touched on in this essay. The misgiving which still survives between inkinesss and Whites in America becomes evident in the 3rd subdivision # 8211 ; # 8216 ; The Time Bomb in the Nursery # 8217 ; . As at that place appeared to be no nexus or motivation for the slayings in Atlanta, and the lone thing that the victims had in common was that they were hapless black kids, people began to presume that the violent deaths were racial. There was no cogent evidence that this was the instance, but the misgiving between races led people to believe it # 8211 ; a mark that America # 8217 ; s racial jobs have still non been overcome. We are told that # 8216 ; racial anxiousness climbed in the metropolis # 8217 ; and that when a bomb exploded in a twenty-four hours nursery killing three kids and a instru ctor, the full metropolis may good hold exploded every bit good had it non been quickly proved that the detonation was the consequence of a faulty boiler. Amis is told that # 8216 ; if that thing hadn # 8217 ; t been unfastened and shut the same twenty-four hours, it could hold been a bloody dark in Atlanta. # 8217 ; The 4th subdivision of the essay is entitled # 8216 ; Circus of the Supercops # 8217 ; , and the imagination of the rubric is surely appropriate as the well-known hatchet mans brought in from other provinces have a great trade in common with the buffoons in a circus collapsible shelter. As the despair saddle horses, more and more attempts are made to catch the slayer: psychics, the FBI, epidemiologists, the Guardian Angels, German Shepherd Canis familiariss are all brought to Atlanta and here Amis uses three points at the terminal of the paragraph as if to state that the list is eternal but that all the methods were every bit ineffective as the others. One method w hich people are certain will work as it entreaties to the greed of America is the reward money of $ 100,000, but even this fails to take to an apprehension. The chief motivation behind the reaching of so many # 8216 ; detectives # 8217 ; was merely PR and as one observer provinces, # 8216 ; they all merely wanted to # 8220 ; gt ; look # 8220 ; gt ; good. # 8217 ; However, this selfishness is displayed by other members of the public, among them politicians, who are besides concerned more with how the Atlanta slayings issue will impact them than the issue itself. The disintegrating province of America # 8217 ; s society is once more described by Amis as the offenses of Atlanta are discovered. Hidden organic structures, guns and stolen goods are found ; diseased teenage stealers, kid cocottes are exposed but none of these are related to the Killings. There are still no hints and about the lone thing that people can make up ones mind on is that there # 8216 ; has to be money i nvolved. Bottom line for a whole lotta material is money. # 8217 ; We are reminded of the jangle from the start of the essay as Amis sums up the state of affairs, # 8216 ; Despite the propaganda, the runs, the fright, the childs still go with strangers. # 8217 ; In the concluding subdivision, Amis leaves Atlanta briefly to associate incidents of racial violent deaths in other metropoliss across America before giving us his position on the affair, # 8216 ; it is really alluring to see forms here. # 8217 ; The stoping to the essay is baleful as he describes the ghettos utilizing imagination to show a baleful image of the hereafter in Atlanta. The short concluding sentence, # 8217 ; some will split # 8217 ; , helps to reenforce his point in clear and concise linguistic communication. In # 8216 ; The Killings in Atlanta # 8217 ; Amis uses flooring enunciation to mirror violent state of affairss and leaves us with the feeling that America has vast societal jobs and a authorities incapable of managing them. The subjects of slaying, disease, greed, selfishness, and racial intolerance are all dealt with and the shutting sentence of the PS reminds us that America # 8217 ; s jobs are ongoing: # 8216 ; Possibly, so, the Killings in Atlanta are over, while the violent deaths in Atlanta go on. # 8217 ; Murder is once more the subject of treatment in # 8216 ; The Case of Claus von Bulow # 8217 ; and once more money is a subject entwined throughout. The episode has captivated the American populace, all of whom have their ain positions on the affair ââ¬â ââ¬Ëthe whole of tabloid and small-screen America are split down the middle.ââ¬â¢ The essay trades with the slaying of Sunny von Bulow and whether or non it was committed by her hubby, Claus von Bulow. Amisââ¬â¢s choice of linguistic communication and diction are of import in this essay, even in footings of the names. In the sentence, ââ¬ËNamed after the adult female who started life as a Liszt and ended it as a Wagnerââ¬â¢ , we can see a clear passage from a weak, inactive ââ¬ËLisztââ¬â¢ to a loud and showy ââ¬ËWagnerââ¬â¢ . As he sets the scene and relates the history of the instance, Amis makes the narrative more reliable by stealing in assorted colloquialisms: ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s refuse about Sunny being an alky and a pill-popper.ââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ë Well, what do you cognize? ââ¬â¢ There is a motive of drugs running throughout the essay, a capable really much portion of American life and yet another indicant of a deca ying society. We learn that ââ¬ËClaus was to a great extent reliant on Valiumââ¬â¢ and that ââ¬ËSunny and Claus used to mess around with drugs. Panpipes were so much a portion of the furniture that childs used to utilize them as water-pistols.ââ¬â¢ Again there is usage of the three points doing a intermission of idea and a opportunity to reconsider the old point. Other linguistical devices employed by Amis include lytotese ( a few million here or at that place ) , repeat ( improbably beautiful, improbably rich and, it seemed, improbably easy to rule ) and hyperbole ( a intimation of flab is an abomination ) . ââ¬ËThe Life of Pure Moneyââ¬â¢ is the rubric to subdivision three, as we see the subject of money appear one time more. The message in the gap paragraph is that worlds, and Americans in peculiar, are by nature greedy and ever endeavoring for more than they have. Later on in the essay we once more see grounds of this fact, as we are told, ââ¬ËThe hotel staf f loved him. ââ¬Å"So gracious. And every forenoon ever $ 10 for the amah In other words ââ¬â in America ââ¬â money does purchase you love. Towards the terminal, there is usage of the device foremost seen in the rubric of ââ¬ËThe Killings in Atlantaââ¬â¢ ââ¬â the capital missive: ââ¬Ëthe Manipulator. Here Amis uses it to do the word seem like a proper noun and to pull notice to it. Amis concludes the essay with a sum-up of his theory of the events, corroborating his belief that von Bulow is guilty and in the PS he once more points an accusative finger at the American justness system, which, as in ââ¬ËThe Killings of Atlantaââ¬â¢ essay, appears really corrupt and has allowed two really rich work forces to get away a prison sentence. Death is besides the subject of treatment in ââ¬ËDouble Hazard: Making Sense of AIDSââ¬â¢ . Although the AIDS epidemic can barely be blamed on America, their handling of the state of affairs as described in the essay leav es a batch to be desired. > At the start of the essay, Amis introduces us to the topic by telling an incident which he instead ironically depict as ââ¬Ëbanalââ¬â¢ . A immature, cheery adult male passes two ââ¬Ëtoughââ¬â¢ misss and finds the words ââ¬ËFucking AIDS-carrierââ¬â¢ directed towards him. Amis doubtless sees this incident as really distressing and spends the undermentioned three paragraphs detailing the deductions of it. We once more see the usage of a capital missive at the start of the word ââ¬ËDeathââ¬â¢ , in order to do it look even more powerful and noticeable. After demoing us the effects on one adult male, Amis moves onto a more general treatment of the fiscal effects of AIDS. In America, where the Health Service is non free, AIDS sufferers non merely have to endure the existent disease and its effects but besides the rough worlds of a money-orientated state. The ill adult male faces mean medical measures of $ 75,000 and with a medical-insuran ce system which ââ¬Ëis a shambles of pedantry and expedienceââ¬â¢ , slender opportunity of lasting to pull his first check. Again it is a instance of people believing of their ain involvements before those of others.American dishonesty, as Amis himself describes it, is looked at with respect to euphemisms. We are told that in New York everyone on the public wing refers to AIDS patients as PWAs: individuals with AIDS and how in America as a whole, disabled people are simply ââ¬Ëchallengedââ¬â¢ , and the ââ¬Ëexceptionalââ¬â¢ kid is the kid with encephalon harm. This is merely a method of acquiring rid of a job by glossing over the truth, as Amis puts it: ââ¬ËHaving named a painful world, you besides dispatch it ; you get it off your desk.ââ¬â¢ Self involvement is once more apparent in politicians as we are told that the ground the Mayor of New York came across with a $ 6.5 million bundle was non in response to the countless protests and requests, but due to the fact that it was election twelvemonth. This political ego involvement is once more apparent in ââ¬ËToo Much Monkey Business: The New Evangelical Rightââ¬â¢ , where we see Ronald Reagan saying positions on development which are likely to win him 50 million ballots. The essay describes the rise in popularity and importance of the Evangelical Right, a motion which is continually ridiculed by Amis, although he does express concern over the issue. Right from the start Amis sets out to demo the Evangelical Right as ludicrous and foolish, an nonsubjective often fulfilled by his pick of citations. The initial rhyme of the first paragraph is a good illustration of this selective pick of citations: ââ¬Ëâ⬠I call it Mickey Mouse mentalityâ⬠¦ monkey mythology methodological analysis monopoly, cryptic contemplations and everyday dreams of all this monkey concern! â⬠ââ¬Ë Later we see him carefully taking quotation marks from the choice of propaganda cusps he finds in the Reunian Arena, Dallas. He writes: â⬠Why A Bankrupt America? explains how the Trilateral Commission is helping ââ¬Å"Russia Enslave the World!â⬠ââ¬Ë Most of the pamphlets are presented as being so far fetched, that the people who wrote them cannot be taken seriously. However, Amis insists this is exactly what we must do as he opens the second section with the line: ââ¬ËThis is a good deal more serious than it may at first sound.ââ¬â¢ The Evangelical Right are the Republican Partyââ¬â¢s new champions, their electronic ministers of the air. This expression, used by Amis throughout the essay, is an evocative piece of imagery and bares similarities to the description of Reaganââ¬â¢s speech delivery, as depicted in ââ¬ËRonald Reaganââ¬â¢: ââ¬ËIt is all delivered with mechanical verveââ¬â¢ In both cases there is a sense of the inhuman and the unfeeling. >We can gauge Amisââ¬â¢s feelings on the subject by his use of the word ââ¬Ëapparentlyââ¬â ¢ signifying that he does not share the views of the Evangelicals. How does this essay help add to the argument that Amis is presenting a picture of American society in a state of decay? Well, the Evangelicals show a great deal of intolerance and hatred towards many sections of society and according to Amis, ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦have thwarted pro-homosexual and womenââ¬â¢s rights legislationâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢Also, the movement is allowing some men to get very rich indeed, as TV preachers turn over billions of tax-free dollars every year. The majority of the remainder of the essay is spent relating the various styles of these preachers, from the animalistic Dr James Robinson, who ââ¬â¢strodeââ¬â¢ on-stage in a ââ¬â¢sensual, predatory mannerââ¬â¢, to the sweet-talking Jerry Falwell, who ââ¬Ëeasedââ¬â¢ himself up on to the stage. So, we have seen murder, death, disease, intolerance, hatred and the evils of the dollar all described in vivid detail in the ââ¬ËMoronic Infern oââ¬â¢ and although these things can be found in any country in the world, it is the sheer scale of them in America that is worrying. Perhaps soon the moronic inferno will cease to be a metaphor and will become a reality. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-59375612778554981712020-04-28T08:38:00.001-07:002020-04-28T08:38:03.113-07:00The Personality Of The Chorus In Terms Of Oedipus Essays The Personality Of The Chorus In Terms Of Oedipus In Oedipus the King, Sophocles utilizes the chorus to function as the embodiment of the reasoning process. Throughout the play, the chorus' personality gradually evolves as information pertaining to Oedipus becomes disclosed. The progression of the chorus' personality can be divided into three distinct stages: supportive and reliant on Oedipus, uncertain about the circumstances presented against Oedipus and commiserating Oedipus' fall. In each stage, the chorus serves a background to all interactions and provides the prospective Sophocles desires the audience (or readers) to grasp. The chorus also creates a sense of unity and cohesiveness which pervades the entire play. The chorus' evolving personality reflects the progressive revelation of Oedipus' tragic fate. At the beginning of the play, the chorus' personality is unaffected by Oedipus' fate and shows full confidence in Oedipus' abilities as a leader. The chorus views Oedipus as their savior, the one who is to rid the ?pollution? suffocating Thebes by killing the murder of Laius. The chorus reveals what they believe Oedipus is capable of by saying ?if he[murders of Laius] has a share of fear at all, his courage will not stand firm, hearing your curse (pg. 22 line 294).? The chorus' support is absolutely unanimous and unquestionable. Even when Teiresias, a man with the ?gift of prophecy?, reveals Oedipus' fate to the chorus, the personality of the chorus remains static and it professes, ?One man may pass another in wisdom but I would never agree with those that find fault with the king till I should see the word proved right beyond doubt( pg. 32 line 508).? The chorus' belief in Oedipus exceeds even fate. In fact, the chorus' faith in Oedipus initially overshadows his numerous character f laws. As a result of Oedipus' rash temperament, the chorus often finds itself in a position where it must defend Oedipus' actions. For instance, when Oedipus grows suspicious of Creon and speaks ill of him to Teiresias, the chorus protectively reasons to Creon that ?it was a sudden gust of anger that forced that insult from him, and no judgement (pg. 32 line 525).? The chorus' support of Oedipus is initially impervious to his fate. The chorus' personality towards Oedipus slowly begins to shift from supportive to ambiguous when information steadily reveals Oedipus' fate. The first noticeable sign of change occurs when Oedipus attacks Creon's loyalty. The chorus exposes doubts it has concerning Oedipus' impulsive temper; they say when referring to Creon's words, ?His words are wise, king, if one fears to fall. Those who are quick of temper are not safe (pg. 37 line 617).? This marks the first time the chorus questions any of Oedipus' actions. As the quarrel continues the chorus slowly begins to side with Creon and even states, ?He has been no silly child in the past. He is strong in his oath now. Spare him (pg. 39 line 658).? Oedipus' rash manner and the presentation of incriminating information have finally resulted in the altering of the chorus' personality. The feeling of uncertainty pervades as the chorus lacking confidence in Oedipus says, ?God grant that now, too, you may prove a fortunate guide for us (pg. 41 line 695).? Ironically, Oedipus' impetus on Creon brought about his own incrimination and the realization of his fate. The chorus' personality evolves over the duration of the argument with Creon and eventually the chorus realizes the tragic fate of Oedipus. The final stage of the chorus' personality progression revolves around the downfall of Oedipus due to his fate. In this stage, the chorus exposes the notion that the welfare of the state is all that truly matters. For example, when the chorus prays to the Gods for guidance, it says, ?Isolence breeds the tryant, insolence if it is glutted with a surfeit, unseasonable, unprofitable, climbs to the roof-top and plunges sheer down to the ruin that must be, and there its feet are no service. But I pray that the God may never abolish the eager ambition that profits the state. For I shall never cease to hold the God as our protector (pg. 48 line 875).? The chorus has turned its pleas to the God and no longer place woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-10038161683106712712020-04-13T04:05:00.001-07:002020-04-13T04:05:05.225-07:00Argument Essay WritingArgument Essay WritingWhile writing an argument essay, you must make sure that the idea and meaning of your piece are clear. Mia Hamms brother recalls that she was extremely athletic even back then and that she would often compete with the other boys on the block in childhood games, often winning them. But earlier on, Mia Hamm had some problems with her legs, she was born with a partial clubfoot. This meant that she had to wear casts on her feet to correct this problem. Fortunately, the casts had a visible effect and Mia Hamm would soon fully recover. Throughout Mia Hamms childhood, she had to move a lot, because her father was in the Air Force. Once, her and her family went to Italy and it is there that Mia saw exactly what soccer is about. The Italians passion for soccer triggered an interest in soccer, when she was just 6 years old. After moving to Texas, she immediately picked up the sport and started playing for a local womens soccer youth club. | Unlike most other players that have to go through certain steps during their childhood, Mia Hamms career had a jump start at a very early age. With Mia dominating the youth competitions of womens soccer in Texas, it was only natural that she ended up in the spotlight of the United States national team staff. However, at age 14, she wasnt ready for that big of a leap, yet. One of the less known facts about Mia Hamm is that she also enjoyed watching and playing football. This helped her later on in her soccer career, increasing her strength, structure and aggressive spirit. Age 15, Mia Hamm moved to northern Virginia, where she would attend the Lake Braddock Secondary school; living with her uncle. She kept on playing soccer and one day, an impressive phone call got the young girl cheering throughout the house. She was called for the senior United States womens soccer team, becoming the youngest player in history to play on it. Fortunately, she did have a good constitution that allowed her to physically survive the difficulties of senior professional soccer at that level. Although she would not play much during her first few years on the team, those times were extremely important in her adaptation process. By the time Mia was seventeen, she already felt right at home on the United States squad and managed to score her first goal for the team, in a match against Canada. After finishing high school, Mia Hamm was already on her way to success, now constantly being called up to the national team. She started playing regularly. However, she chose to follow a University as well; the University of North Carolina. She began playing for the University of North Carolinaââ¬â¢s women soccer team, the Tar Heels, and lead them to a string of four straight national titles, in addition to being the team and the leagues all-time top scorer. | In 1991, she put her time with the University of North Carolina on hold. She was being called for her first World Cup, held in China. The United States team was put in a tough group against Brazil, Japan and Sweden. In their first match against Sweden, Mia Hamm managed a crucial 62 minute goal, and the USA team won 3-2. She had scored the winning goal. Their next match, against Brazil saw a wild United States Team with Mia Hamm as the MVP of the match, beating Brazil 5-0. In the last group match, against Japan, the United States womens soccer team beat Japan, 3-0. Coming back to the UNC, Mia Hamm was greeted as a hero and was soon given the nickname Jordan, as a reference to another North Carolina athlete of international fame, Michael Jordan. By that time, Mia Hamm, a soccer player that started out in a small Texas youth club, was already a World Champion at age twenty and had a wonderful career in front of her. When she finished studying at the University, Hamm focused merely on the US national squad, participating in the 1995 World Cup, where the United States ended up third. A moment bound to be remembered from that World Cup was when Mia Hamm went on to play as a goalkeeper, with no one left to play on this position. Despite the United States losing the title and the final, Mia Hamm was voted the Most Valuable Player of the World Cup. One year later, at the 1996 Olympic Games, Mia suffered an ankle injury that kept her off the field for a match, but she was able to recover for the final game, played against China. Hamm contributed decisively to the winning goal, her shot coming off the bar, only to be plunged back in the net by Shannon MacMillan. The United States had gotten another gold medal. Months before the World Cup started, Mia Hamm had already broken the record for most international goals scored by a male or female soccer player, hitting the net for the 108th time in a match against Brazil. Mia Hamms seventeen years with the United States squad brought her a lot of trophies and success. This included two World Cups, two World Cup bronze medals, two Olympic gold medals, and a silver medal. Mia Hamm also won the FIFA Womens Soccer Player of the Year twice, in 2001 and 2002. She currently holds the record for most international goals scored by a player, male or female, with an impressive amount of 158 goals. Mia was one of the only 2 women named on Peles 125 Best Soccer Players of All Times, next to USA national team colleague, Michelle Akers. Mia retired from soccer in 2004 at the age of 32, to start a family. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-32122252761005666672020-03-03T15:15:00.001-08:002020-03-03T15:15:02.678-08:00Biography of Jane Seymour, Third Wife of Henry VIIIBiography of Jane Seymour, Third Wife of Henry VIII Known for: The third wife of King Henry VIII of England; Jane bore a much-wanted son as heir (the future Edward VI) Occupation: Queen consort (third) to Englands King Henry VIII; had been a maid of honor to both Catherine of Aragon (from 1532) and Anne BoleynSignificant Dates: 1508 or 1509ââ¬âOctober 24, 1537; became queen by marriage on May 30, 1536, when she married Henry VIII; proclaimed queen on June 4, 1536, though she was never crowned as queen Early Life of Jane Seymour Brought up as a typical noblewoman of her time, Jane Seymour became a maid of honor to Queen Catherine (of Aragon) in 1532. After Henry had his marriage to Catherine annulled in 1532, Jane Seymour became a maid of honor to his second wife, Anne Boleyn. In February of 1536, as Henry VIIIs interest in Anne Boleyn waned and it became apparent that she would not bear a male heir for Henry, the court noticed Henrys interest in Jane Seymour. Marriage to Henry VIII Anne Boleyn was convicted of treason and executed on May 19, 1536. Henry announced his betrothal to Jane Seymour the next day, May 20. They were married on May 30 and Jane Seymour was pronounced Queen Consort on June 4, which was also the public announcement of the marriage. She was never officially crowned as queen, perhaps because Henry was waiting until after the birth of a male heir for such a ceremony. Jane Seymours court was far more subdued than Anne Boleyns. She apparently intended to avoid many of the errors made by Anne. During her brief reign as Henrys queen, Jane Seymour had worked to bring peace between Henrys eldest daughter, Mary, and Henry. Jane had Mary brought to court and worked to get her named as Henrys heir after any of Jane and Henrys offspring. Birth of Edward VI Clearly, Henry married Jane Seymour primarily to bear a male heir. He was successful in this when, on October 12, 1537, Jane Seymour gave birth to a prince. Edward was the male heir Henry so desired. Jane Seymour had also worked to reconcile the relationship between Henry and his daughter Elizabeth. Jane invited Elizabeth to the princes christening. The baby was christened October 15, and then Jane fell ill with puerperal fever, a complication of childbirth. She died on October 24, 1537. The Lady Mary (future Queen Mary I) served as chief mourner at Jane Seymours funeral. Henry After Janes Death Henrys reaction after Janes death lends credence to the idea that he loved Jane - or at least appreciated her role as the mother of his only surviving son. He went into mourning for three months. Soon after, Henry began searching for another appropriate wife, but he did not remarry for three years when he married Anne of Cleves (and shortly thereafter regretted that decision). When Henry died, ten years after Janes death, he had himself buried with her. Janes Brothers Two of Janes brothers are noted for using Henrys ties to Jane for their own advancement. Thomas Seymour, Janes brother, married Henrys widow and sixth wife, Catherine Parr. Edward Seymour, also a brother of Jane Seymour, served as Protector - more like a regent - for Edward VI after Henrys death. Both these brothers attempts to exercise power came to bad ends: both were eventually executed. However, she renounces the same before the beginning of the next year. It is breach of contract on the part of Angelina, and John can claim damages for the same. Hence, obligations of contract bind the parties to fulfil the responsibilities of their part, non-compliance of which creates liabilities on them. Borja Garcia of the Loughborough University explored the ââ¬Å"origins and developmentâ⬠(2007) of this involvement. Perhaps, the turning point of this involvement was in December 2000 when the ââ¬Å"the European Council agreed to grant the social, educational and cultural functions of sport special status within the European Unions (EU) Treaty frameworkâ⬠(Parrish, 2001, p. 188. Garcia further opined that this involvement is ââ¬Å"a consequence of actors instrumentalising institutional venues to their own benefitâ⬠(Garcia, 2007). Ian Blackshaw observed that through the EU ââ¬Å"sport is subject to the ââ¬Ëacquis communautaireââ¬â¢ ââ¬â the body of law that has grown up and developed by the Community Institutions, not least the rulings of the European Court of Justice, the guardian of the EC Treatyâ⬠(2007). Although the creation of a standard on the dimensions of the target is very sound, restricting the source of the target is bordering on the ridiculous. Too much focus on trivialities can shift the attention from what rifle target shooting means as sports ââ¬â a measure of marksmanship and skills. Stephen Weatherill, on the other hand, opined that EUââ¬â¢s involvement in the regulation of sports in the European communities is a good thing, but too much is not good either. Specifically, his white paper ââ¬Å"sets out a case for EU intervention in sport where this is necessary and helpful, but it accepts that much sporting activity is not usefully the subject of elaborate EU supervision, and it instead recognises the proper role of other public and private actors. And ââ¬â contrary to the complaints loudly woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-43577530040390464942020-01-25T14:04:00.001-08:002020-01-25T14:04:03.526-08:00The US Hotel Chain MarriottThe US Hotel Chain Marriott U.S. hotel chain Marriott International is one of the largest transnational corporations in the world. According to the corporations data, every fourth tourist in America stays in Marriott International hotels. Rapidly spreading its influence in the world, Marriott sets the goal to win and retain the leading position in the hotel market, showing a special concern with respect to the guests, business partners, employees and society as a whole. The business of Marriott Corporation is built on fundamental ideals of service provided to customers, employees and society. These ideals are perpetual, unique and make the company a successful manager, being the cornerstone for all employees of the company. In this section, the main study focus is on the data of exploratory research conducted with the purpose of identifying current practices of Marriott International under the conditions of globalization and the impact of globalization on Marriotts sales, marketing, HR, and brand positioning approaches, while outlining the main advantages Marriott international within this context. History of Marriott International, Inc. The history of this hotel corporation is a vivid example of the embodiment of the American dream traditional for several generations of U.S. citizens. Thousands of now flourishing companies started their long journey to success just like Marriott. In May 1927, a 26-year-old man from Utah, John Marriott and his wife opened the eatery for nine seats in Washington. Johns lucky fortune and business skills helped him to survive the collapse of the U.S. economy during the Great Depression in the late thirties he was already the owner of a regional restaurant chain The Shoppe Inc. and the eponymous company specialized in the delivery of hot meals for passengers of local airlines. John Marriott acquired his first hotel in 1957. It was called the Twin Bridges Marriott Motor Hotel, and was located in Arlington (Virginia). John wanted to create a family business and eventually handed over the management of the company to his son. Marriott Jr. conducted business as thoroughly as his father did (Marriott and Brown, 1997). In 1964 the company was renamed as Marriott Corporation. The Corporation expressed interest in everything that was associated with restaurant and hotel business, and when in 1977 the sales revenues of enterprises in which Marriott had a franchise crossed one billion dollars, John Marriott Jr. realized that the property management brings no less benefits than its owning. The Corporation developed its own concept of hotel network with a limited set of services by the end of the 80s and actively operated in three sectors of the hotel market in the U.S.: managing the network of hotels with full service (Marriott suites), inexpensive hotels (Residence Inn) and a network of cheap motels (Fairfield Inn) (Marriott and Brown, 1997; OBrien, 1995). In the early 90s, Marriott Corp. had only a few dozen hotels outside the U.S.A. Based on the principles of diversification, kept by the most of the major companies in the world (in other words: Dont put all your eggs in one basket), in 1993 the corporation was split into two companies: Marriott International (hotel and real estate management) and Host Marriott (real estate transactions and food delivery). That moment laid the beginning of the active promotion of Marriott International in the international market as the management company (Marriott and Brown, 1997). At the moment, Marriott International Corporation has more than 3500 lodging properties located in the U.S. and in 69 other countries around the world (2010), employing 137,000 people (Marriott International Company Profile, 2010). Table 2.1. Marriott International Hotel Brands and Property Count (December 2009- December- 2010) Marriott-12-31-10-Hotel-Count-global Globalization Strategies and Practices Marriott controls more than half a million hotel rooms worldwide, while owning only 0,3% of them. Half of the remaining rooms is a franchise. This means that hotel owners allocate 5% to 6% of their incomes to Marriott as a fee for using the companys name as well as for using rooms reservation system. Marriott manages the other half of hotel rooms by charging the owners of the hotel fee for providing this service (Boo, Hillard and Jin, 2010). Acting as an operator, Marriott takes about 65% of income, paying out from this sum the expenses for salaries, utilities, insurance, and purchase of food. 29% of revenue goes to the owner of the hotel. Of this amount, he pays property taxes and mortgage rates, and the rest (if any) he counts to his earnings. Even though some people may be disgruntled and demonize Marriott, the company still has much to be proud of: 55% Marriott hotel owners would like their next hotel to be run by this company (Jang and Tang, 2009). Brand and the Marriott reservation system are worth it. Regional offices Marriot Inc. include (Table 2.2.; Table 2.3.): North America (NALO) Asia, Pacific, Australia (APA) The Caribbean, Latin America (CABL) United Kingdom, Ireland, Middle East, Africa (UKIMEA) Continental Europe (CE) Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) Western and Southern Europe (France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Italy, Greece, etc.) Eastern Europe (Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Kazakhstan). Marriott International manages and provides franchise of hotels under the brands of Renaissance, Marriott, JW Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn, Courtyard, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites and Ramada International; the company develops and operates resorts in the vacation ownership under the brands of Marriott Vacation Club International, The Ritz-Carlton Club, Horizons and Marriott Grand Residence Club; it offers apartments in Marriott Executive Apartments, provides furnished corporate suites Marriott ExecuStay and operates conference centers (Table 2.4.). Smith Travel Research data state that raising a Marriott flag in the front of a big hotel offering a full range of hotel services increases its sales by 13% if compared to sales of a hotel with the flag of, for example, Doubletree. Virtually all other Marriott divisions from luxury Ritz-Carlton to a commonly accessible Residence Inn are ahead of their competitors in the indicator of hotel room income by 10% to 30% (A problem shared, 2005). Product Brand Position The components of Marriotts corporate style are a company logo, colors, fonts, letterhead, website, brand perfumes and accessories. Marriott logo is a rectangle with an image of a sphere the inscription Marriott itself, designed in two basic colors: white and cherry, and golden. A well-established and recognizable corporate style is the key to Marriott brand promotion in the global market. For example, when developing a program to promote a network of hotels in Moscow, Marriott used the corporate logo and brand image, which is the image of the famous Faberge Easter eggs, which embodies prestige, luxury, and very high consumer value, comparable only with the works of the most expensive and fashionable jeweler. For example, Marriott Tverskaya has as its symbol a stylized gold Faberge egg, Marriott Grand 5 *- the blue one, and Marriott Royal 5 * luxury the scarlet one. Such approach to corporate style creation can be described as very competent and thoughtful. Relying on the widely popular historical and cultural brands and using countrys national colors, the company certainly enhances the image component of hotel marketing, combining high international standards of service with the national peculiarities of a country and its hospitality traditions (ONeill and Mattila, 2004). Moreover, in each room of Marriott hotel chain there are branded forms for letters and branded pens with the hotel name. The rooms use brand linens, and brand aromatic policy of Marriott hotels. Recently, with the development of Internet and e-mail correspondence, the issue of corporate style of electronic documents has become very topical. Web site today is the first thing that a potential guest sees, and it can help to quickly create an impression about the level of the hotel, the service, room rates, to estimate the location and walk through rooms, restaurants, lounge, as well as to book a room (OConnor, 2008). Marriott Corporation owns over 3500 hotels, and for conveniency there is a single site from which one can get to the site of any hotel of the network in the world. Moreover, the web-sites of the hotels are designed in the same style and structure. Color differences depend on the brand. The common brand Marriott Hotels, Resorts Suites unites many brands, each with its own color scheme: for example, Courtyard by Marriott has a green color palette. Site structure is common for all hotels (photo tour, guest rooms in details, hotel proposals, hotel background information, restaurants and halls, city guide, maps and transport, events plan, Marriott Rewards program, hotels fact-sheet in print format). The web-site is the embodiment of Marriott corporate style and world-class service. Currently, Marriott is included in top 10 international hotel chains and actively moves to the top through expanding its franchise contracts and promoting high level of service and corporate style. Sales Marketing The major instrument of the company is the fact that a very small percentage of real estate the company manages factually belongs to it. In 1993, Marriott transferred all of its buildings and most of the debt on the balance of the investment real estate subsidiary Host Marriott, headed by the younger brother of Bill Marriott, while Hilton and Starwood, in contrast, own 30% of hotels under their control. Since Marriott receives a fee for hotel management, vacant hotel rooms bring fewer losses to it than to the owners, who have to clear the mortgage (A problem shared, 2005). Another component of the success of Marriott is the attention to details. For instance, the rules for cleaning a hotel room set in Marriott include 66 points. The company also shares the aroma marketing approach. Generally, Marriott with great zeal is looking for new clients and opportunities to open new hotels. Taking into account different groups of clients and their material resources, the network is developing a variety of brands, increasing the amount of service (Table 2.4.): Marriott Hotels and Resorts hotels with full service, managed through a franchise or independently. Renaissance Hotels and Resorts hotels offering full-service accommodation facilities for business travelers, vacationers. Marriott Conference Centers full service hotels for conferences and meetings. Courtyard by Marriott division responsible for a hotel chain with relatively low prices. Fairfield Inn by Marriott division responsible for economy class hotel chain. SpringHill Suites division responsible for the chain of secondary and higher-class hotels targeted at business and leisure travelers, especially women and children. Residence Inn by Marriott leader in the segment of the long stay hotels. TownePlace Suites division responsible for long stay hotel chain with relatively low prices. Marriott ExecuStay business unit that provides accommodation facilities for 1 month or more. Marriott Executive Apartments division that provides accommodation for business visitors for a period of more than 30 days. Marriott Vacation Club International division applying timeshare system; a guest can purchase a week off at the hotel of this class. The system includes 38 exclusive resorts. Ritz-Carlton leading hotel brand in the segment of luxury hotels. The innovative approach that accelerated the development of Marriott, Inc., was also the bonus program for customers, launched in 1983, which now serves as the element of Marriotts corporate style. Thanks to Marriott Rewards, Marriott Corporation has an opportunity to acquire more permanent guests of the Marriott chain. Marriott Rewards program encourages customers for giving preference to Marriott International and its partners, rewarding them for the choice of hotels of the network (Dubà © and Renaghan, 1999). The participant of Marriott Rewards receives certain points or miles that can be used as payment for accommodation (special certificates) in the hotels of the network or as a discount for buying airline tickets (applied to miles). Points can be used for free accommodation, purchasing discounted packet services around the world, including domestic air transport services, car rental, cruises, etc. Such programs later started to be introduced by other network hospitality compan ies, but the scheme, devised by Marriott, remains the best one: maximum discount combined the highest luxury. Human Resources Every corporate culture is an element of corporate style. Marriotts corporate culture was founded in 1927 and is being kept till this day: The better the company will treat its employees, the better employees will treat customers. Big corporations like Marriott, offer a high service level in many countries around the world. To make all the employees regardless of their nationality and educational level meet the high standards of the corporation, they should be trained in order to improve their skills. The key to training efficiency in Marriott is its perception as a corporate value which is consistent with the main strategy of the company. A continuous training helps to guarantee high quality service, comply with the companys strict standards, motivate and retain employees, creating staff reserve. Continuous training is also the only way to keep abreast with the changes occurring today and be prepared to their growing pace (Hinkin and Tracey, 2010; Katzenbach, 2000). Every year, Marriott celebrates the anniversary of its foundation (May 20) selecting a certain week for it to express the companys gratitude to the employees who are the members of a huge international family Marriott. Advertising and promotion program Marriott Rewards is also a very important part of every employee in the Marriott Corporation. Considering the case of hotel chain Marriott International, it should be noted that in a business famous for its high rates of revenues, Marriott is outstandingly competent at preserving talented managers, which is reflected in low satisfaction gap (Figure 2.2.) (Hinkin and Tracey, 2010). One of the ways to do that is a specific program that trains managers to solve business situations preparing and encouraging them to seek for promotions to top management positions. Advantages of Marriott, Inc over Competition in terms of Globalization Marriott International Hotels have the loading of 10% above the average in the global hospitality industry, while hotel rooms are sold at higher rates than those of direct competitors (Table 2.5). The advantage in the loading percentage and selling prices is achieved by providing individual and group customers more services than they can get anywhere else. Booking of hotel rooms in the companys hotels is conducted through its own global distribution system (GDS) or via the Internet. Moreover, the system uses the technology of guest recognition of hotels of all brands of the company, and rewards programs for repeat customers. In 1999, the company expended its use of the so-called quality assurance teams, assisting companies to implement advanced network management practices and reduce costs (Dubà © and Renaghan, 1999). On a whole, Figure 2.3 shows the positive dynamics in RevPAR data for North America Marriott properties for the five fiscal years 2004 -2008 with a peak in 2007: Figure 2.3. 2004-2008 RevPAR data for Marriot International (North America) Figure 2 Conclusion Marriott dominates in the market for one simple reason: it is successful in managing hotels worldwide. The hotel managed by Marriott becomes a large hotel with restaurants, shops and business center, room service, in-line and butlers. All hotels of the chain are characterized by the same service, which is based on a clear interaction between all structures and maintained tight control by the head office. Marriott International mission states that the corporation aims to become the best company in the fields of accommodation and services in the world due to the fact that its employees are seeking to provide their customers the best possible services, resulting in benefits for the companys shareholders. In recent years, Marriott International has shown a positive dynamics of development and continues to rapidly spread the chain all over the globe on the basis of franchise contracts. This practice, along with innovative approach to global hotel marketing, Marriott Rewards program, guest recognition technologies, high level of personnel training and constantly increasing level of service, helps Marriott International stay in the top five hotels chains globally. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-42284007988426955302020-01-17T10:27:00.001-08:002020-01-17T10:27:03.546-08:00Philosophy of Mozi EssayRomeo and Juliet, the two young lovers in William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Romeo and Juliet, ended up becoming a large part of what could be called ââ¬Å"fateâ⬠. Fate seemed to control their lives and force them together, becoming a large part of their love, and the ending of their parents hatred. In ancient China, a philosopher, Mozi, rejected fatalism because it is a belief that gives people excuses to doing nothing. He says: [I]f we were to accept the theories of the fatalists, then those above would not attend to affairs of state and those below would not pursue their tasks. If those above do not attend to affairs of state, then the government will fall into disorder, while if those below do not pursue their tasks, there will not be enough wealth and goods. There will be no way to provide security for the worthy and able men of the world below. There will be no mean to entertain and conduct exchanges with the feudal lords who come as guests from abroad, while within the state there will be no means to feed the hungry, cloths the cold, and care for the aged and weak. One should not believe that one is determined by oneââ¬â¢s fate because this belief does not promote universal benefits for the world. For most people, when they think fate is at work on their situation, they stop thinking about their own solutions. They will think less, be less alert, and be more trusting. It is what they do, say and act as a result of believing in fate that can cause major disasters in their lives. When one stops thinking, stops acting, stops working the hardest one could towards something, then one is letting the ball drops. As a result, he is not achieving as much as he could, he may lose money, lose job and lose responsibilities. However, he would not care so much because he blames it on fate, not himself. Everything that happens in human life is a product of what they do to their life and not determined by fate alone. There is a saying goes, ââ¬Å"Life is what you make it. â⬠A man truly creates his life and should not rely too much on fate. There are many factors affect manââ¬â¢s life. These different factors either make him or unmake him. The circumstance depends on whether one has grabbed the correct reign to man the horse or one has missed it. What people do today that is crucial in what happens to him in the future. One of the critics Mozi makes of Confucians is that they encourage the idea that oneââ¬â¢s fate was predetermined which lead to resignation and failure on the part of the people. Mozi seems to have believed to the contrary that a manââ¬â¢s fate was to be shape by a man effort; that Heaven might guide. A lot of successful and driven people in variety fields confess that fate seems to be against them at the launch of their career. It was hard, many successful folks say, but nothing could have held them back as they strove to the best. Besides that, sometimes a person whom one thinks cannot succeed will suddenly emerged as the most successful businessman. Without even noticing what had really occurred the man whom everybody had pinpointed as the useless and most unwanted person will turn out as the best person in one day. Sometimes the turn of the wheel is just so confusing that people find themselves confused and not being able to cope with what life provides. Everything depends on our determination, our strength to defeat the obstacles we meet on our life journey. Mozi states, ââ¬Å"Heaven might guide. â⬠The term ââ¬Å"Heavenâ⬠here can be people around us, for instance, an elderly person, a teacher, a friend and etc. who lend helping hands in assisting our succeed. Opportunities and time wait for no man. ââ¬Å"Heavenâ⬠will only guide people who are well prepared and highly determined and not who believe in Him sincerely but doing nothing. People choose what they do and what could happen to them in the future. If one is going to look what life really is, one should begin to analyze what one has done in the past that made one is today. You are what you did and not really destiny and fate. Man cannot really tell what is going to happen in the future and what should be avoid is a mistake that goes on and on until the person who made the mistake does not come out quagmire he has built around him. Mistakes do happen in everyoneââ¬â¢s life but making the same mistake over and over in oneââ¬â¢s life is not at all proper for a person who has knowledge unless he wants to ruin his life. A person who commits the same mistake throughout his life is trying to test what life is all about without thinking of the consequences that the mistake could do him in the future and not considering the future. In short, Moziââ¬â¢s criticism of fatalism does not point to the proponentââ¬â¢s weakness in reasoning; it points specifically to the bad consequences such a theory will bring. Fate sometimes make an abrupt turnaround which will make people either lost balance or being thrown away so far that one cannot grasp anything to hold on it. For those people who have done good things in their life and have planned their future ahead in their younger years, they are the people who have smooth sailing boat. In contrary, those people who have thought fortune angel is always at their site, it would be a sorry state for them. REFERENCES Liu, JeeLoo. (2006). Many other citizens believe that the NSAs actions are unconstitutional. These actions are considered to be a political stunt for hiding all of military business from the public while the go vernment has its open eye on the citizens. Some worry that though the surveillance plan sounds good, persons and companies highly misuse the metadata for their own use. Another dilemma this surveillance poses is the fact that, the government has information about all private transactions and bank records and cards of its citizens. The NSA intrudes into the private lives of the citizens, which in turn takes away the freedom and control the citizens have under the Fourth Amendment of the constitutional rights. The civilians believe that the government is bullying them by prying into their privacy. Mr. Jim Bradford, author of The Body of Secrets claims that NSA and government together bend the Fourth Amendment: Created a structure to allow the government to do this kind of eavesdropping legally(Michele par. 13). You can make slime that looks radioactive and toxic, yet is actually easy to make and safe. Heres how you do it. Slime Materials 4-oz bottle school glue gelboraxwaterfood coloring Prepare the Slime Solutions You make slime by mixing together a borax solution and a glue solution. Prepare these solutions first and then use just the amount you need to make perfect slime. Borax Solution Take about a half cup of hot water and stir in borax until it stops dissolving. The solution may be a little cloudy. That is fine. You will use the liquid part for making slime, not the gritty stuff at the bottom of the container. Glue Solution The trick to making translucent extra-slimy slime is using the right glue. You can use white glue, but the slime will be opaque. If you want clear jelly-like slime, use the glue gel. It is usually pale blue, but a little food coloring can turn it any color. Stir 4-oz of glue into 1 cup of water.Add a couple of drops of food coloring. The radioactive chemistry green-yellow color is obtained by adding 2 drops of yellow or 2 drops yellow and 1 drop of green coloring, depending on how green you want the slime. Make Slime Just mix together 1/3 cup of the borax solution and 1 cup of the glue solution. If you are making bigger batches of slime, just use 1 part borax solution and three parts glue solution. It is fine to use your hands. I posted a video so you can see what to expect. Make it Glow You can make the slime glow very brightly under a black light if you break open a yellow highlighter, remove the stick containing the ink, and let it bleed into the water you use to make the slime. Wear gloves when breaking the highlighter pen unless you want highlighted fingers. Also, avoid getting any fluorescent slime on furniture or any other surface that might be stained by the ink. Store Your Slime When you arent using your slime, keep it in a sealed plastic bag so that it wont dry out. It will stay moist and disgusting for a couple of weeks if you store the bag in the refrigerator. How Slime Works When you mix the glue and the borax a chemical change occurs in the polymer in the glue, polyvinyl acetate. Cross-linking bonds are formed, making the glue stick to you less and to itself more. You can experiment with the amount of glue, water, and borax that you use to make the slime more fluid or stiffer. The molecules in the polymer are not fixed in place, so you can stretch the slime. woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-51321422383307951152019-12-23T23:02:00.001-08:002019-12-23T23:02:03.628-08:00Motivation And Its Impact On Performance - 860 Words Motivation and its Impact on Performance Tony Mcalphin, Student Eastern Florida State College A personsââ¬â¢ performance is dependent on their willingness to accomplish a goal. There are different aspects that make up motivation and performance. In this paper, we will learn what defines both motivation and performance, and how they affect each other. What is Motivation? A personââ¬â¢s motivation is what drives them to set a goal and accomplish it. Merriam-Webster(2013) describes motivation as, ââ¬Å"the general desire or willingness of someone to do somethingâ⬠(Merriam-Webster, 2013). Two theories surround motivation and the reason why they are or are not motivated. Natural vs. Rational and Content vs. Process Theory In psychology, there are twoâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Content is the common sense and process is the impact the statement has. Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation. Merriam-Webster(2013) dictionary describes Intrinsic Motivation as, ââ¬Å"Motivation to engage in a behavior arises from within the individual because it is intrinsically rewardingâ⬠(Merriam-Webster, 2013). Content vs. Process theory describes intrinsic motivation. Merriam-Webster(2013) states that Extrinsic Motivation is motivation that comes from an external source(Webster, 2013). Natural vs. Rational Theory describes extrinsic motivation because a person is looking for an outside reward such as a trophy, or an increased salary. What is Performance? Merriam-Webster(2013) dictionary defines Performance as, ââ¬Å"the execution of an action, or something accomplishedâ⬠(Merriam-Webster, 2013). Performance can be a physical or mental action taken to change a course and further themselves towards an achievement. Relationship between Motivation and Performance. A personsââ¬â¢ performance is based off of how much a person is motivated to complete the task. Motivation and Performance have a direct correlation with each other; the workplace being a prime example. An employee has to be motivated to rise up the ladder and receive a higher paying job, but if they are not, then they will not perform. Some people believe that the lack of performance is based on the employer having a degrading outlook on their employee. Instead of looking at the positives woodsdowbpraniv1970http://www.blogger.com/profile/02796167248937722840noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6741184039153110244.post-12674696812839340472019-12-15T19:30:00.001-08:002019-12-15T19:30:05.859-08:00Career Transition Free Essays Career Transition In this paper, I will research career transition and how it has impacted the workforce and management. I will present from three research articles that I feel are important in understanding how career transition affects adults who are transitioning from one career to another. As an HRM, one of the biggest parts of our job will be to recruit new talent. We will write a custom essay sample on Career Transition or any similar topic only for you Order Now Traditional careers are falling to the wayside and emerging is a type of employee who has been around the block once or twice. I am going to focus on first the way careers are changing, then I am going to look at the military and how they prepare their retirees, many of whom are still in their 30ââ¬â¢s, for retirement, and finally, I will look at career transition and what role HR plays. Gone are the days of staying with one company until you are eligible for the pension and a gold watch. The average person born in the later years of the baby boom held 10. 8 jobs from age 18 to age 42, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U. S. Department of Labor (Number of Jobs Held, Labor Market Activity, and Earnings Growth Among the Youngest Baby Boomers: Results From a Longitudinal Survey Summary , 2008). Career transition is no longer looked at as something to avoid putting on your resume. It seems like everyone it doing. So how can a person make the transition smooth and successful? Career transition often requires employing new tools, skills and/or a switch in perception. In her article, Beyond the Career Mystique: ââ¬Å"Time in,â⬠ââ¬Å"Time out,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Second Actsâ⬠, Phyllis Moen. states that Americans confront a major mismatch between outdated career and retirement regimes and the exigencies of (1) family responsibilities, and (2) the risks and uncertainties associated with a competitive, global, and information-based economy. Unlike privileged workers in the 1950s, members of Americaââ¬â¢s 21st-century workforce find it increasingly rare to have either a full-time homemaker or a secure, ââ¬Å"lifetimeâ⬠job. This mismatch challenges both scholars and policy makers to revisit, research, and rewrite the disparate scripts constituting the rules of the career game. The mid-20th-century bargain of trading a lifetime of paid work for a lifetime of income security-never a reality except for a group of middle-class office workers and unionized production workers in the post war economic boom of the 1950s-is probably gone forever. (Moen) Her points regarding the changing career climate are spot on. Many of he lifetime jobs are ones that have no real advancement potential. A GS (Government Service) job will allow for increases in pay due to step promotion and COLA increases, but in order to advance into a higher GS position a person would have to make significant gains in their education and/or work experience. Both of these might require leaving the current job for a time period. In some cases, the GS jobs have no advancement potential even with additional education, a person would have to quit t heir current job and reapply for a new position. Even more evidence that points to employers changing the career game is an article published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that states that employà ¬ers are replacing defined-benefit retirement plans with defined-contribution retirement plans, allowing employers to shift more responsibility for retireà ¬ment income to the employee. (U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010) So what are the consequences of this alteration of the career landscape? The median age of workers are increasing. The prime age group, composed of 25- to 54-year-olds, is projected to increase by 1. million and make up 63. 5 percent of the total labor force in the target year. The youth labor force, composed of 16- to 24-year-olds, is expected to decline from the 2008 level, but will remain over 21 million in 2018. The military is one area that has a great deal of experience with career change. Not only do the military members change jobs frequently, most retire after only 20 years of service. This puts someo ne who may only be 38 in the position finding new employment at a relatively young age. A study examined the concerns of retiring Marine Corps noncommissioned officers (NCOs) as they experience the adult career transition of retirement from military service and transition to the civilian workplace. Analysis of focus group transcripts reveal a range of concerns related to the transition factors cited in Schlossbergââ¬â¢s Transition Theory as the 4 Sââ¬â¢s: situation, self, support, strategy. The study provided insight on the issues and challenges Marine Corps noncommissioned officers (NCOs), and all Military Personnel face upon retirement based on the following articulated themes: cultural, community, social and psychological concerns. The paper suggested that programming be offered to facilitate transition and should also address psychological and social concerns which may improve the quality and outcomes of transition to a new role in civilian life. (Johnston, Fletcher, Ginn, Stein) Many of these jobs are in the skilled labor fields which are light on EAPââ¬â¢s to assist once the transition has occurred. Next to the military, education is another area that see its fair share of transition. A quick Google search on career transition will bring up a plethora of sites offering advice on starting a second career in teaching. The main areas that see an influx are secondary high school education teachers and entry-level college instructors. Why are these areas so appealing? One paper seeks to reviews the current theory in areas relevant to industry-to-academia career transitions, and to outline a theory that targets this category of employee directly. They sought to outline the first step toward a limited theory explaining the special needs and motivations of industry-to-academia career transitions. Throughout this paper, the hybrid academic institution, consisting of a traditional core and a nontraditional periphery, received special emphasis. While the research did not conclusively define the reasons behind the transition, consider the following concepts: (1) proteanism, or the protean approach to career transitions; (2) transition types; and (3) human values. (Bandow, Minsky, Steven) All of which are indicative not only in instances of industry-to-academia career transitions, but in most all other areas as well. Even for the most experienced and well-educated person, transition does require some finesse. Here are a few tips that can help make the change less traumatic. It is important to take a serious look at the many possibilities and outcomes before you jump into a new career or field. Consider these 10 tips as you make a transition from your present career to your next: 1. Have a clear plan. The smartest move that you can make is to carefully map out an effective career-change strategy. This should include a detailed action plan that takes into consideration finances, research, education, and training. Keep in mind that a successful career change can take several months or longer to accomplish, so patience is key. . Wait for the right time. The best time to consider a new career is when you are safely ensconced in your existing position. It is understood that a steady paycheck can relieve a lot of pressure. There are many ways to take steps toward your new career path; you can volunteer or offer yourself as a freelancer or consultant. This can help you to ââ¬Å"test the watersâ⬠in your desired new field. 3. Be sure of your reasons. Just because youââ¬â¢re unhappy in your current job isnââ¬â¢t a strong enough reason to make a total career break. Carefully analyze whether it is your actual career you dislike or whether your employer, supervisor, or office situation is the problem. 4. Do your research. Be sure to examine all possibilities before attempting a career jump. Talk to people in your network; read career and job profiles; meet with a career management professional. The more information with which you arm yourself beforehand, the more successful you will be. 5. Decide what is important. This is the best time for thoughtful self-reflection. Ask yourself what it is you really want to do with the rest of your life. Take an honest inventory of your likes and dislikes, and evaluate your skills, values, and personal interests. Many people who are looking to change careers do so to find a balance between their personal and professional lives, to accomplish the right mix of meaning and money. You may want to consider consulting a career coach and/or taking a career assessment test. 6. Examine your qualifications. Do you have the necessary experience and education to be considered a qualified candidate in your desired career field? If not, you need to find a way to bridge the credentials gap. This might mean making your goal more long-term while you go back to school or receive additional training. 7. Learn about the industry. Get a feel for the field that interests you. Read industry journals, attend conferences, and talk to people in the profession about what they do. Learn whether your target industry has growth potential. Trade magazines, organizations, and entrepreneurs have created a slew of Web sites that offer searchable databases where job openings in many specific industries are listed. Start looking at these sites on a regular basis. 8. Develop your network. Begin nurturing professional friendships early and tend them regularly. Professional organizations and job industry trade associations are a good place to start. Many of them hold networking events and job fairs. 9. Update your job search skills. It is especially important to polish up your job-hunting skills and techniques before you get out there and start networking. Make sure you are using your time and resources as effectively as possible. 10. Pay your dues. Do not expect to begin at the same level of seniority in your new career that you held in your old one. It will take time to move up the ranks, but if you find a new career that you absolutely love, it will be worth it. (Ten Tips on Making a Successful Career Change) In conclusion, with the continued changing landscape of todayââ¬â¢s business world, career change is here to stay. People are having to work further into what used to be the retirement years and some are deciding to live to work instead of work to live. Whatever the reason the challenges of a career transition can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time. The most important thing is to be true to you and to not be afraid of new horizons. This essay discusses Robert Putnams perception of the American society. The author explains how and why the American society is falling apart and why it is disintegrated. The author provides the reasons for Putnams conclusion such as the role of television in our society. One of the most important questions for any democratic country is how to increase voter participation in the process, since a country may be said to be a democracy only to the extent that people participate in the process of selecting leaders. By this measure the United States remains only partially successful as a democracy. Although there was higher voter turnout this year than in many elections (about half of registered voters), there remain both a large number of people who never register to vote at all and a large number of those who are registered who never (or rarely) vote.
